Tattooed Mamas FTW

I got my first tattoo when I was 18 or 19. I was still living at home and had to pay my sister $5 to not tell my parents. And now, my parents have way more tattoos than I do. Tattoos have totally gone mainstream.

And am I bemoaning that fact? Am I a tattoo snob? Hell no! I love tattoos, on any and everyone. They're beautiful, meaningful, make a statement and are personal. Sure, there are a hell of a lot of crappy ones out there (hello, Ugliest Tattoos) but I think they are a great thing.

I know, I know. You don't think a tattoo will look good on your skin when you're 70 (psst... nothing will look good at 70, sorry). You don't like any image enough to have it permanently on your skin. There are lots of reasons people always give to not tattoo- but here's the thing:

So, without further ado, here are my tattoos.

Shoulder, left
Left ankle.

Chest, right (cover up of my first 2 tattoos)

Shoulder, right.
And if you're not on Twitter, you are fortunate to have missed my hours long whiny #tattootweet fest as  I got my Mother's Day present. I H.A.T.E. getting tattoos- it hurts. If you haven't gotten one, it feels like exactly what it is- a needle stabbing you a million times and being dragged over your skin. It's not fun. Thank you so much to my Twitter pals for keeping me company. I really appreciated it!

So, what about you? Do you tattoo? I'd love to see- leave your links in the comments below!

  1. Not one tattoo here. But I love the cover up one you have. In my opinion the best work of your collection. I am scared to death to get a bad tattoo. My sister has numerous...her first to memorialize her first son born still. It is truly a beautiful tattoo. Not a huge tattoo fan, but the only thing I can guarantee I will feel the same about in 10-20 years is my kids.

    1. Thank you! That one he actually just drew on me with a marker- I am thrilled with it.

  2. I'm too ADD for tattoos. I'd never be able to make up my mind, and even if I finally decided on one, I'm sure I'd hate it in a year (or less!). But I like seeing other people's!

    1. I totally get that. The baby in a flower has been in my mind for almost 2 years now, so I was ready to go for it.

  3. Aww I LOVE that one that you got for mother's day! That is so freaking' cute.

I have many tattoos as well! I've got a half sleeve, the area above my knees, a word on my belt line, part of my chest piece, Deathly Hallows symbol...a lot! I need to do a post like this and have all my tattoos on one post! I don't even have a finished picture of my half sleeve!

  4. No tattoos. First of all, I think I'm like Homeschool Atheist and I'm too ADD. Second, I experience enough pain on a regular basis that's not voluntary, so I figure I'll pass. That said, if it makes you happy, knock yourself out. But I do think it's funny how mainstream it is now. I'm not sure what lengths people are going to have to go to soon to be really "edgy."

    1. I do not enjoy the pain of a tattoo- the tattoo artist remarked on how nervous I was. But to me, the end result is worth it.

  5. I'm pissed! How did I miss your new tattoo? And hell yes, I have them and no I won't leave a link because you've seen the last one and you were virtually with me all the way!

  6. Love tattoos! I have several, but they are all in a place that can be covered. Nurses with "sleeves" are frowned upon;) lol. Seriously though in another life I would be tatted from head to toe!

    1. The wrist is my first one that is not easily covered up (unless I wear long sleeves). It was a bit of a leap, but I was ready.

  7. Tattoos are not for me. My daughter, another story. Her first is a GIANT crown on her hip. All I can think about is the Burger King slogan, have it your way.....

    1. I think a cheeseburger tattoo would be adorable- maybe she'll get that next. ;)
